Dr. Mark Lowitt graduated with an A.B. degree from Princeton University with Honors in Comparative Literature. He received his M.D. degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine. He completed a 3-year residency in Internal Medicine at the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston (Harvard Medical School), followed by a 3-year residency in Dermatology at the University of Maryland Medical System. He is Board-certified in Dermatology.
Dr. Lowitt served on the full-time academic faculty at the University of Maryland School of Medicine from 1993 through 2004. He served as Vice-Chairman of the Department of Dermatology, Residency Program Director, Head of Medical Student Teaching in Dermatology, and Chief of Dermatology at the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Lowitt has published 7 textbook chapters, 27 medical journal articles and 10 scientific abstracts and has presented more than 200 invited oral presentations on the local, regional, national, and international levels. He has won numerous teaching awards, incuding the American College of Physicians Governor’s Award for Service to the Maryland Chapter, for excellence in teaching.
Dr. Lowitt is an accomplished classical vocalist who has performed as a member of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society for more than 15 years. He serves as Cantor and Tenor section leader at the Cathedral of Mary our Queen. He lives in Baltimore, has three children and many pets.
